The CAKE!!!

Here it is!!!!!!! Cute huh???? And here are the new Mr & Mrs Smith… Aren’t they cute????

The wedding was AMAZING! It was the first time we had ever been to a sealing (Well other than our own..) And seriously.. I don’t remember anything of that day.. it was such a blur. It was so neat to see it from a different perspective. We sat on the side where Michelle was facing us, I loved watching her and remembering the feelings going through my mind. Those two are so much in love. They are so perfect for each other and I couldn’t be more happy for them!

If you want to see more about the cake.. pop on over to http://www.thatsmycake.net/ I wrote a whole post about it.

We even snuck in a few pics at the temple..
And at the reception too.. But be warned.. this had been a VERY long day.. and this was at the very end..

Since we had to be at the Temple a little after 11am we were excited to sleep in (since I was up a little late finishing the cake)

Turns out we both had meeting we had to go to at work in the morning. His was at 9 and mine was at 10. So we got to sleep in about an hour then go to work all dressed up.

We both finished our meetings a little early and headed downtown. It was nice not to have to rush. Although Aaron may have been annoyed by me singing “I love to see the temple” all the way there! But I just learned all the words, so its still new to me!

We attended the sealing then took some pictures. Aaron played with the kids around the reflecting pond and then we went and had some lunch. We went to the Red Iguana downtown..and it was AMAZING! It’s been awhile since we’ve been out to eat. So it was really nice.

We headed home to finish the cake then went up to the reception site. We helped set up, went home to change and then went back when it started.

It was a great day.. I couldn’t have imagined anything better…

oh and p.s. I TOTALLY loved my photographer for my wedding. Check her out..

http://www.lindsayjanephotography.com/

but Michelle’s photographer was SOOOO Awesome!!!!! I really liked her too, and I believe she is priced a lot better! And just as good.. so go check her out..

http://photographybydmc.blogspot.com/ & http://photographybydmc.com/

She was so great and so personable.

I wish we could go to a wedding every week! Maybe if I start making more cakes I can!

Porous Walker's Haricots Magique The Final Attempt..

Dollar

I've spent a few days this week at Fifty24SF with Porous Walker and friends as they got ready for Porous' show that opens on Friday, Haricots Magique: The Final Attempt. Porous has assured me on numerous occasions this week that this show is all about 'the quest for fun.' Anybody who gets to spend any amount of time with Porous can more than likely attest to his ongoing quest for fun in everyday life.

By far my favorite part of Haricots Magique is Porous' fifteen foot plus drawing that hangs midway down the left wall from one end of the room to the other. Almost every inch of the brown butcher paper is covered with his humorous and quick witted drawings, including over a thousand little birdies with every 'friend' Porous has on his Facebook page. It's also a veritable who's who (of little birdies) within the San Francisco (and beyond) art world. At the front of the pack? An unnamed sole little birdy leading the entire banner of fun into the sunset .

Make sure you stop in to Fifty24SF on Friday. There will be music, dancing, popcorn, compliments on your outfit and prizes and giveaways. The magic starts at 7!

More images after the jump!

time out for a sob story..

Sadmac

i told you folks last week that i spilled water all over my laptop. i ruined it. totally killed it. or so i thought, because that's what a certain company that bore that sucker told me. now, i'm not going to do any public flogging here and name that company that has a fruit that looks like an apple for a brand, no, there will be no mention of that company. but let's just say they were really less than helpful. however, never one to let sleeping dogs lie...just for the heck of it, i turned on my laptop last night. you know just for kicks. well, lo and behold it turned on! ok, so the keypad doesn't work, but hell, all of my music, images, photos, notes, and documents for the past 2 1/2 yrs have NOT disappeared into the ethernet! so, why am i relaying this sob story to you? well besides the fact that i'll talk to anybody who will listen about it, i want to keep you all in the loop and let you know i'll still be posting but perhaps not w/ the voracity i have in the previous weeks. so please sit tight, hang in there w/ me and once i have sold everything but my dog i will be back on schedule. god speed. and thank you, thank you to all the sweet emails and kind comments and for my friends who have lent me their desktop in the meantime. everybody's awesome support kept me a float this past week for sure!

So Yoon Lym The Dreamtime..

LYM_Jonathan_9

I recently stumbled on So Yoon Lym's group of paintings, The Dreamtime and fell for them for so many reasons. Braiding and cornrowing is an art in and of itself, I love that So has taken an 'arial' view of the hairstyles - giving the viewer an upclose and personal view at how gorgeous the patterns are.

explaining this to my three-year-old

{The Sri Lankan coastline from my plane window this morning.}“You go on a airplane and go see O, Mommy?” He parrots back to me bits and pieces of what I have told him about this trip. “And den you give him his happy birthday present? Then you come home?”OBoy and I have had many conversations in preparation for my trip to Sri Lanka with World Vision, usually over scrambled eggs or Graham crackers. I have tried to touch on the important parts and skip over the details for which he would have no frame of reference. As far as distance, he does not know that I will be traveling for 33 hours each way or that I will be 10.5 hours ahead of his time zone. Ten point five. Apparently the Time Powers That Be believe in fractions. OBoy does know that Mommy will take a plane to a far away place where O and other kiddos live and that I will have to take a plane home, too.OBoy has a loose grasp on the notion of future-time beyond tomorrow and the day after that. Tomorrow he gets. “We go to sweep and den when we wakes up it be time to go to the libwawy.” Yesterday we sat on the rug in our living room and, this time over cheese crackers, I talked through how many times he would sleep and wake up during mommy’s trip. 9. Nine times his Daddy (or our awesome babysitter) will help him brush his teeth, will read to him from the Bible, will tuck him in, and will help him get dressed in the morning. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. Sleep, wake up. THEN mommy comes home on the airplane and you, OBrother and Daddy can pick me up at the airport. But my three year old? He more than understands helping people. The fact that mommy packed dozens of toys for kiddos who may not have many toys is not lost on him. Sure, he was dissapointed when I informed him that he could not, in fact, keep the slinky he found in my luggage, but it was fleeting. When I told him (over oatmeal) that I am going to see children and babies who need money so that they can see the doctor and eat healthy food, he asked if I could bring them oatmeal “so the kiddos can grow big and strong like me.”He gets it. He might not grasp how far or how long I am going, but he absolutely understands why I’m going. I have to believe that it is innate – part of our Made In His Image-ness – to understand charity. Time and distance take theories and charts, but compassion only takes seeing and hearing for us to understand.I hope you will come with us to Sri Lanka this week to see and hear.Take a moment and consider sponsoring a child through World Vision. We can make a difference one child, one community, one country at a time.

Know Hope The Times Won't Save You (This Rain Smells of Memory)..

Install

Opening tonight in LA at Carmichael Gallery is Know Hope's The Times Won't Save You (This Rain Smells of Memory). With 30,000 paper raindrops, 40,000 feet of fishing twine, 2,500 fishing weights and hundreds of sheets of cardboard it sounds like it's going to be an epic installation. In Know Hope's words here's a little bit about the show: "This exhibition holds nothing but a reflection of where we are now, andoffers us nothing but the suggestion of adaptation and (re)adjustmentto the current tides. This is a binding burden, and we're all in this together."

Here are some sneak peek photo's from Carmichael's flickr stream...To read more about Know Hope you can check out an interview I did with him in January here.

Gaia in Korea..

Tigerrabbit

Gaia blew through San Francisco in May for his show at Heist Gallery. Never one to be shy, Gaia spread his pieces all over the city. It was exciting to see a Gaia piece suddenly appear on my walk up 6th street to Mission for coffee. Notoriously a hectic environment, and when I say hectic I mean crack, squalor and over all unbelievable depths in which the human psyche can sink to everywhere you look, despite the city's attempt at a 'beautification' program. But to be greeted by this piece, still groggy and ducking panhandlers trying to make your way to get coffee was a nice change of pace.

I wonder if the folks in Seoul, South Korea felt the same about Gaia's latest domination. Gaia recently spent time in there through an exchange program. He hit 4 parts of the city, dipping into Korean folklore, religion and his own perception of the state of the nation within his latest paste-ups. Each piece has an accompanying video with an explanation behind Gaia's inspiration. Check em out on Gaia's vimeo page. They're all pretty diverse and beautiful. I can't decide which is my fave. Can you?

The Invariant Set..

IMG_5131

In October James Gauvreau sent me images of his and Anna Pantchev latest work under the name The Invariant Set. Obviously, this post is stupidly late...but I really loved what they sent, and to be honest I just do not have enough time in the day (with a full time job, meh.) to post everything I receive or want to for that matter. But enough whingeing about things that can not be help. I grew up around many women who quilt, so right off the bat The Invariant Set's work instinctively appealed to me. The colors, the shape, the whole set up: LOVE. Better late than never. Learn more about them on their blog.
